Inklings Chemistry
Chemistry that comes alive.
Molecules, glassware and graphs that build themselves on the screen.
Student screen timeanswered and graded on screen
Caffeine, C8H10N4O2
The atom to organic chemistry.
360 topics across eleven levels, from Grade 7 to Organic Chemistry II.
Pictures that build themselves.
Glassware fills, particles fly into place and atoms bond as each problem comes into view.
Formulas typed as chemistry.
Type Fe2O3 and see Fe₂O₃. Equations and electron configurations are checked the way a teacher would.
Chemistry problem sets your student answers on the screen and that grade themselves the moment they tap Submit, from states of matter and the atom all the way to organic chemistry.
You tick what your student already knows. Inklings Chemistry builds a problem set from the next few topics in the course, every problem drawn with its picture: glassware with readable scales, particles, models of molecules, graphs, structures. Each picture builds itself on screen the first time it comes into view, and again whenever it is tapped. Your student works it out with a pencil, paper and a calculator, types numbers into boxes laid out like the answer (the units are written for them), types formulas and equations as they read ("Fe2O3" shows as Fe₂O₃), and picks words and names from buttons. Tap Submit and the sheet is marked at once: a pencil marks every answer on its question, and every mistake opens its full worked solution. The next problem set takes account of everything: holding a topic back until it is solid, and slipping in the occasional refresher from something already mastered.
How it works
- Set up your student and, ideally, a parent PIN. The PIN keeps the answer key, settings, tests and the other parent controls for you.
- Mark what your student already knows, or leave it blank to start at matter and measurement in Grade 7.
- Your student answers on the screen and taps Submit. Answers are kept as they go, so a problem set can be finished later.
- The results come straight away: the score, what was earned, what comes next, and a look over each mistake with its worked solution.
- The next problem set is built from what that showed.
What is inside
- 360 topics across eleven levels: Grades 7 to 11, then Chemistry I and II, General Chemistry I and II, and Organic Chemistry I and II. The course is taken topic by topic, and nothing arrives before what it depends on.
- Numbers are generated fresh each time. A new topic starts with round numbers, and grows to full multi-step problems as your student gets it right.
- Pictures drawn to scale and animated: lab glassware that draws itself and fills, particles that fly into place, atoms that pop in and bond, graphs that trace their curves, the periodic table, Lewis structures and 3D models, skeletal structures and reaction mechanisms.
- Answers checked the way a teacher would: numbers to three significant figures, typed as 2.1e6 or 0.0021 with the units already in place; formulas, equations and electron configurations typed as chemistry, in any order where order does not matter.
- A full worked solution for every problem: the law comes first, then every step with that problem's own numbers, often with a picture.
- A how-to page for every topic, and 505 hand-picked videos, one to three for each topic.
- XP, stars, ranks, a daily streak and trophies that reward accuracy and persistence, never speed, presented to suit the student's age.
- A test at the end of each quarter of a level, and tests and problem sets you put together yourself.
- A progress dashboard for parents, with updates by text or email if you want them.
- Up to 30 students on one device, each with their own progress, problem sets and history.
What it needs
- An iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later.
- An internet connection only for watching the videos. Everything else works offline.
- A printer only if you want a problem set on paper too. Any AirPrint printer works.
What it doesn't do
- No adverts, no analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no in-app purchases.
- No network connections of its own. Everything your student does stays on your device. The only thing that ever leaves the app is a video you choose to open, which plays in YouTube or Safari, or an update you choose to send.
